Founded in 1989, The European Gay & Lesbian Sport Federation’s aim was to fight against discrimination in sports on the grounds of sexual preference. Fifteen years later it has made great strides in achieving this goal and one example is the EuroGames, which is open to gay, lesbian, straight and mixed-sport groups and organizations. The biggest gay and lesbian sporting event in Europe will take place in Munich from July 29 to August 1, where 5,000 men and women from all over Europe will compete in 27 different sports. The sports include aerobics, air gun shooting, badminton, basketball, beach volleyball, bench press, bowling, cheerleading, chess, dancing, fencing, football, free climbing, golf, handball, karate, line dance, martial arts, rowing, squash, swimming (including synchronized swimming), ping pong, tennis, track and field (including half-marathon), triathlon, volleyball and wrestling. The range of competitions and tournaments held this year, the largest ever, will be accompanied by a varied cultural program of parties, shows, exhibitions, workshops and much more. Everybody is welcome, irrespective of nationality and sexual, religious or political orientation. For more information visit
